“The Dark Tower” on the Silver Screen – A Geek Girl’s Opinion

The Dark Tower

photo via obsessedwithfilm.com

So…I’m listening to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series on audiobook and remembering all the things I love about the series. I’ve read the books countless times but until recently I only had the audiobook for “The Drawing of Three”. Now I’ve managed to get all of them and I’m currently listening to “The Wastelands”. Well…I’m listening when I’m on break or at lunch. Still, it’s good even in 10 minute doses and makes for perfect listening material while knitting Jayne Hats.

As much as I love the series I have to admit that I’m terribly worried about seeing it in a visual format. I mean, they’re talking about making a miniseries and movie out of the books and while I think it could definitely be interesting, I’m worried that they won’t be able to do it justice. The books are so complex and rich that I don’t think you can convey that all on a screen. My other huge concern is the actors that they’ll get to be in the movie.

My life without a PC

I have been without a dedicated computer for around six months now.  The main reason why I decided against getting a new computer for Christmas was my iPod touch. In fact I got a new iPod touch instead. My iPod touch is my dedicated computer. Sure it doesn’t have flash and it can’t do some of the things that a dedicated computer can do, I do miss being able to download some things every now and then. I’ve spent the last week weighing up the pros and cons of having a dedicated computer instead of or as well as a device like an iPod or iPad. Here is what I came up with.

Got Sin? There’s an app for that: Roman Catholic Church approves Confessional App

Are you a sinner? Don’t worry, there’s an app for that. The Roman Catholic Church has approved a recent iTunes addition called Confession, a $1.99 app that bills itself as “the perfect aid for every penitent.”

Black Ops Ascension Strategy

Ascension is the new Zombie map that came out for Call of Duty: Black Ops in the First Strike Map Pack. A lot of people I know who bought this game are not planning on playing this map. If you bought it(for $15 no less) you should at least give it a few plays. Maybe after reading this article you will see how in depth this map really is and also how fun it can be not worrying about some dude camping and working with a few friends against the living dead. I am going to go through some of the new stuff in this map as well as tips, tricks and my own strategy. I may forget a few things, and If I do then I am sorry. I will try to cover as much as I can. See the rest after the jump.

Defy Gravity on Xbox Live

You may or may not have read my review on the indie game Defy Gravity. If you have then awesome. If you haven’t then check it out here. The reason why I bring this back up is this fun game is now on Xbox live. Its under the indie games for 80 points. Thats only $1. That is a great deal for this game. I highly recommend you search this on your xbox or go on the xbox market online here for it. Great little game for only $1. If your still not sure then try the free trial game of it then.

Betrayal of my fandom – I might actually like “Smallville”

Smallville Season 1

Smallville Season 1

I’m a Batman fan to the core.

I watched the movies. I own various seasons of the animated series. I dress as characters. I write fanfiction. I own toys, pez dispensers, plates, and so on. All in the name of my love for Batman and the Rogues Gallery.

I’ve always thought Batman was definitely the better superhero when compared to Superman. I mean, he’s a dude without a single superpower who also isn’t afraid to break a thug’s legs to get the information he needs. If Superman even bruises someone I swear it looks like he might be the one to cry. I’m all in favor of a little tough love. Plus Batman has the coolest nemesis: The Joker. How can you top that?

With all my Batman love I now have to admit that I feel like a traitor.

“Your lives have ended. What you do with your new lives is entirely up to me.” – Gantz the movie

About a week ago I had the chance to see the new live-action Gantz movie on its one day showing here in the States. I had actually won a free pass from VIZ to see it here in Nashville (it was being broadcast live from LA to theaters around the country) and convinced a couple of friends to go with me. We braved the ice that was coating Nashville that night to check out a live-action movie based on a manga and anime that none of us were really familiar with. I’d seen the first few episodes of the anime about a year prior but hadn’t watched any since.

I do have to admit that part of the reason I was so excited to see it was that I discovered one of my favorite actors, Matsuyama Kenichi (who played L in the live-action Death Note movies) would be one of the main characters.

Well, the live intro to the movie was hosted by someone who definitely was not made to host such things. Honestly, I think we would have thrown popcorn at the screen if we’d had any. It was nice to see that they had the two lead actors (and their translators) brought up on stage for a quick intro and a reminder of a Q&A session after the movie. Then it started.
