TMNT Crossed With Power Rangers But Look Like Wolverine. Thanks Japan.

Back in 1996 someone in over at TV Tokyo decided that there needed to be a two episode OVA based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but not just the TMNT that we know. The first OVA, called Sūpā Tātoruzu Dai Pinchi! Seinto Tōjō! (The Great Crisis of the Super Turtles! The Saint Appears!), was based on the Super Mutants toy line. Which happens to look a bit like a sick (the ill kind of sick) Wolverine.

vlcsnap-2012-09-23-20h26m28s66_zpsca32036eThe second OVA, called Shugo JÅ« Kōrin Metaru Tātoruzu Tōjō! (The Coming of the Guardian Beasts – The Metal Turtles Appears!), was based on the Metal Mutants toy line. Which look like the Turtles wearing Gundam armor. Both of these OVAs can be found in the VHS tape called MyÅ«tanto Tātoruzu Chōjin Densetsu Hen and that translates to Mutant Turtles: Superman Legend. No joke.

If I can find these episodes I might do a review.

Animes I’m Looking Forward to This Fall

These are some of this falls animes that I’m looking forward to watching in no particular order

Tokyo Ravens

Tokyo_Ravens_Anime-1024x576(Trailer)

In the “Great Disaster,” Japan has been thrown into chaos by onmyouji (a kind of magician). Harutora Tsuchimikado was born into an onmyouji family, but has no power whatsoever. His childhood friend Natsume (another member of the Tsuchimikado family) appears to him one day to take him up the promise he made long ago to become her shikigami (familiar). A battle between onmyouji is about to begin. <soure: ANN>

Where I’m watching it: Funimation airing on Tuesdays

My Thoughts after the first episode: I don’t know if I like it I’ll need to watch a couple more episodes

Outbreak Company

pv_img02(Trailer)

Having a light novel author father and an eroge (erotic) illustrator mother, Kanou Shinichi is a thoroughbred otaku. However he does not have any special power except for his broad knowledge, sharp insight, and impeccable instinct about “MOE” and its products, from manga to anime to games to light novel to figures. One day he found himself transported to a fantasy world where elves live and dragons fly. And he is given a task—not to fight monster or embark on a quest, but to enhance cultural exchange by becoming a “moe missionary” in this fantasy world! He meets a palace guard who has a bit of fujoshi taste, a half-elf maid, and the empress who is a little girl. He comes up with the idea of building a school. At first it runs as a comedy but later there are serious matters that Shinichi needs to face: ethnic discrimination, social problems, conflict with neighboring countries, sabotage by opposition elements including Japanese government, etc. Can he overcome the obstacles, successfully bring “moe” culture to the fantasy world, and help the people there as well? <source: My Anime List>

Where I’m watching it: Crunchyroll airing on Saturdays

My Thoughts after the first episode: I can already tell this is going to be one of those animes that points out all the Japanese entertainment tropes. That’s ok. The first episode was pretty funny, I look forward to seeing more.

Pokemon Origins

Serving as a more faithful adaptation of the Pokémon Red and Blue games, the story follows a young boy named Red who begins a journey with his Pokémon partner, Charmander, as he seeks to capture all the known Pokémon in the Kanto region and become the Pokémon League Champion. Along the way he comes up against his rival, Blue (“Green” in Japan), various Pokémon Gym Leaders, and the nefarious crime organization, Team Rocket. <source: Wikipedia>

Where I’m watching it: Youtube I couldn’t wait any longer.

My Thoughts after the first episode: This was the Pokemon anime that we always wanted. I watched a fan subtitled version and it wasn’t perfect I did catch some errors. It was totally worth it. I can’t wait for the official version to come out.

He is accompanied by a girl named Yaya, who is actually his Automaton: a living machine doll powered by magical circuits specialized in hand-to-hand combat. In the Academy, there is a combat tournament exclusive to the Top 100 students and their automata, to decide who shall be bestowed with the title of “Wiseman”, the greatest puppeteer. <source: ANN>

The story centers around Kanade Amakusa, a boy cursed with the mental power of “absolute multiple-choice”—a multiple-choice quiz will suddenly appear in his mind, and the choice he makes will become his reality. For example, he would have to choose between going nude from the waist up or the waist down in school. While in school, he is given another choice: 1) A beautiful girl will fall before him or 2) he will fall from the rooftop in female clothes. He chooses option 1, and a blonde girl named Chocolat falls before him.  <source: My Anime List>

Where I’m Watching it: Crunchyroll airing Wednesdays

My thoughts after the first episode: This looks like this is going to be a funny one. I’m not a fan on the art style on it though. I will definitely watch more.

Valvrave the Liberator Season 2

The Dorssia Military Federation, and the Atlantic Rim United States exist as major Military countries, while JOIR is a neutral principality, the story follows Haruto Tokishima as a normal boy going thru high school in T.C (True Calendar) year 71. This all changes when Haruto meets the humanoid weapon Valvrave <source: ANN>

Where I’m Watching it: Crunchyroll airing Fridays

My Thoughts after the first episode: The first episode was just a continuation from where season 1 left off. Nothing was answered in this episode. I am looking forward to more because I do like this space adventure with body-swapping vampires who control giant robots.

If there’s an anime that’s airing this fall left a comment below and tell us what it is.

Why We Might Not Have Another Enterprise On TV Thanks to J.J. Abrams

The original Star Trek TV show was corny and cheap but people loved it and it spawned 6 movies, which only a couple of them actually good. What was great about those movies was that the cast that people knew for years from the TV show were in the movies. Same with the Next Generation, four movies came out of that series and once again the cast that people fell in love with were in the movies. J.J. Abrams has rebooted Star Trek into an alternate universe. That’s all fine and dandy because it proofs that people still like Star Trek. What we are missing is a currently airing Star Trek series. Here’s where the problems come in. Do you continue on the same alternate timeline of the Abrams movies or go back to the original timeline and create a new show from that? If you go from the alternate timeline do you remake the original five year mission which Into Darkness ends at the start of? If you do that, there’s no way you could get the cast from the movie, or do the really hard task of getting actors that can mimic the performances of movie actors.

Nero,_2258What we also don’t know is how the timeline was affected by Nero in the first movie. We now know that it caused the Federation to increase their exploration efforts more quickly than in the “Prime” timeline. Thus causing Khan to be awoken earlier and not by Kirk and the Enterprise. But how else was the timeline affected? Did the accelerated exploration maybe cause Q and the Q Continuum to be discovered earlier and perhaps lead to the discovery of the Borg sooner than the Federation was ready for. Because even in the “Prime” timeline the Borg were discovered sooner than fate designed because Q interfered. Maybe Picard decided to stay on his family’s vineyard or maybe Riker’s transported accident never happened.

There are just so many variables that that one event could have changed. Here’s something that did change because Wrath of Khan isn’t going to happen that means that Spock doesn’t die and get shot off into space and land on Genesis. Maybe the Klingons do steal the Genesis device or maybe they are stopped but not by Kirk and the Enterprise. That means Kirk doesn’t destroy the Enterprise to stop GWhaleprobe2Doc Brown and steal his bird of prey and then head to Vulcan to get Spock all better. This is why Kirk and company were not on Earth when the probe visited Earth looking for the humpbacked whales. Foreseeably that means that the Enterprise crew might have been on Earth and unable to stop the probe from destroying Earth by doing a sling-shot around the Sun. It looks like Nero not only destroyed Vulcan but destroyed Earth too. Think about it.

The only way I can see an Enterprise-focused TV show is if they do the Enterprise-C. Since it was only in one episode of TNG, not a whole lot is known about their missions except for their final mission at Narendra III. Maybe the Romulan attack didn’t happen at all. Maybe it did and we see the flip side the “Yesterday’s Enterprise” episode and see the Neo changes to the 24th century. But then again maybe Rachel Garrett did not become captain of the Enterprise-C.

That got me thinking, other than the part in Star Trek Generations we don’t know much about the Enterprise-B either. That could be another TV series that they could do. Maybe that first trip out of dry-dock to go around Pluto the Energy Ribbon destroyed the brand-spanking new Excelsior-class starship. Or maybe when Kirk saved the ship and didn’t get transported to the Nexus then help Picard take down Soren.

One possible concept for NCC-1701-F Enterprise

Those are the only two ways an Enterprise-focused TV show might have a chance. There are just so many maybes that now come from this alternate timeline that we don’t know and probably won’t be answered without a TV show. I really suggest a Star Trek that is not the focused on the Enterprise like Voyager and Deep Space Nine 9 were. But what I’ve wanted ever since Voyager went off the air was the adventures of the Enterprise-F or G or some later letter. In the Blu-ray of the Next Generations Movie Box Set one of the extras shows concept renderings of the Enterprise-F so that thought was out there at one point. I honestly don’t know why we don’t have a TV show on the air now. Now is the time with the new movies we have new fans and it’ll also be a way to remind old fans that Star Trek really isn’t dead out of the box office. Someone get on it please.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Finally Gets a Premiere Date

The HBO series Game of Thrones finally gets a date for the start of Season 3. The third series is based of the third book of George R. R. Martian’s series, “A Song of Fire and Ice.” According to fans of the books the third one is quite important. The creators of the TV show, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, agreed and decided to have Season 3 only cover the first half of the book and Season 4 cover the rest.

Amazon Instant Video Comes to PS3

Great news for Playstation 3 owners. Toady they receive the ability to watch Amazon Instant Videos. If you have Amazon Prime and a PS3 you are probably very excited. If you don’t have Prime you still should be excited. Everyday Amazon has a video deal of the day on their video on demand service. Today’s deal is Rise of the Planet of the Apes for  $0.99. I for one have been looking forward to one of the consoles to get Amazon Instant Video because of the great daily video deals. Amazon Prime is only $79 a year and allows you to have free 2 day shipping, access to 17,000 Movies and TV Shows, and much more. Now that you can watch the Amazon videos on PS3 Amazon Prime is starting to look even better.

A glimpse of the villain in Star Trek 2!

Star Trek

The details of the next Star Trek movie have been pretty darn scarce. We don’t know who the villain will be (but we do know he’ll be played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and there are other favorite actors that are joining the cast as unnamed characters.

Because of this the speculation has been running rampant on who the major villain will be. All we’ve gotten up to this point is that it won’t be Khan and it will be one of the lesser known ones from the series.

The Waiting Game for BBC’s Sherlock

Wrong by JollyJack

Think you'll see Sherlock this fall?

If you haven’t heard the news, you might want to break out your tissues now.

Sherlock won’t be airing series 2 until 2012.

This change was announced at the end of the re-airing of “The Great Game” on BBC. I know, I know. I got all teary as well when I read the news on Den of Geek. Still, you can’t fault them too much. They’re working around “The Hobbit” production schedule and you know they want to make each of the three 1-1/2 hour episodes as excellent as possible.

Instead we’ll have to content ourselves with re-watching the first series, perhaps alternating it with episodes of Jekyll. What will you be doing while waiting for new Sherlock to hit the airwaves?

Rizzoli and Isles – A new crime drama to enjoy

Rizzoli and Isles

photo via TNT.com

My lack of cable and network television often means that I miss out on cool shows until I visit my mom in OH and she introduces me to them. NCIS, CSI, Bones are just a few of the ones that I’d never heard of till I was hanging with her and she made me watch a few episodes. Well, there’s a new crime drama (and if you hadn’t guessed, I LOVE crime dramas) that she got me hooked on and I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for Netflix to break out the series on DVD.

Rizzoli & Isles.

Steven Moffat’s “Jekyll” is a series worth owning

Jekyll

(photo via BBC)

Last night I finally finished a series that I started months ago. (Which is somewhat sad to say as it’s only six episodes long.) I watched the last half of the BBC series “Jekyll”, written by Steven Moffat. I started the series on recommendations from friends and the knowledge that if I loved “Sherlock” I would probably like this one. Not to mention I’m a huge fan of the original novella and actually tried for awhile to determine what might have been in the potion that first changed Jekyll to Hyde, or at least, what might have been the impurity in his orginal batch.

Edward James Olmos on Dexter? So say we all!

Edward James Olmos on Dexter

Look out, Dexter!

So, recently I caught some news on Twitter that has me quite excited and wishing I actually had cable with the Showtime channel.

Edward James Olmos will be joining the cast of Dexter in a recurring role this coming season.
