Google Goggles Boggle the Mind

A little while back we talked about Google Goggles (Rumored name: Google Eye) and what that would be like. Well, Google came out with a concept video to show us what it might look like to use the goggles.

Amazon Instant Video Comes to PS3

Great news for Playstation 3 owners. Toady they receive the ability to watch Amazon Instant Videos. If you have Amazon Prime and a PS3 you are probably very excited. If you don’t have Prime you still should be excited. Everyday Amazon has a video deal of the day on their video on demand service. Today’s deal is Rise of the Planet of the Apes for  $0.99. I for one have been looking forward to one of the consoles to get Amazon Instant Video because of the great daily video deals. Amazon Prime is only $79 a year and allows you to have free 2 day shipping, access to 17,000 Movies and TV Shows, and much more. Now that you can watch the Amazon videos on PS3 Amazon Prime is starting to look even better.

Nintendo gives in Drops Price of 3DS

As reported by istockanalyst.com — Nintendo of America today announced plans to drop the suggested retail price of its portable Nintendo 3DSâ„¢ system to $169.99 in the United States, as new games based on some of the world’s most beloved video game franchises head to the system. The new price, down from the suggested launch price of $249.99 and effective Aug. 12, makes an outstanding value even better and sets up a strong holiday season for the system.

You Don’t Have to Choose a Side with your Star Wars Keyboard.

OK so E3 happened. But what you probably haven’t heard is Razor is making Star Wars: The Old Republic gaming hardware. A keyboard, a mouse and mouse mat, and a headset. Each one can be changed from Republic to Empire, so you don’t have to choose whether you want to walk the path of the light or give into your anger and go Sith.

Why Sony needs to have a UMD transfer system for PS Vita

This article is based of the recent FAQ that Sony put up regarding the Playstation Vita, in it Sony stated that it is considering a UMD transfer system though there aren’t any plans yet. Sony needs to come up with something.

The PSP Go was a resounding failure, it had potential but even in PSP crazy Japan the system struggles to sell more than 300 units per week while the PSP 3000 regularly beats every other system in terms of sales. Ignoring the other downsides to the PSP Go, I believe that the reason the adoption rate is so low is because people have a stack of UMDs that they have accumulated over six years that they simply don’t want to get rid of, or can’t because of the financial implications involved with replacing all of those games.

Take the launch of the PS3 as an example, the fact that it essentially had a PS2 built into it made the $600 price tag a lot easier to swallow because people already had a stack of games to play on it regardless of what the PS3 launch games were.

Certain PSP games may even have support on Vita for twin analogue sticks making the jump to a PS Vita not dissimilar to the HD up-scaling of PS2 games on the PS3.

So if people have a big collection of UMD based games that will be enhanced by Vita when played on it why wouldn’t somebody consider a UMD transfer program as a HUGE incentive to buying one at launch, particularly if Sony made it very clear that it was a limited time offer.

This isn’t me thinking “Crap I have a ton of soon to be useless UMD games” because I don’t. I got a PSP, for the second time, after Vita was announced so I have been careful to buy all my games digitally and I would only like my UMD copy of Final Fantasy IV to be playable on the Vita. If Sony were to announce that all UMD games can be swapped for a digital copy within three months of Vita being released then I would be much more liable to buy a Vita at launch in order to transfer over my one game. Imagine the millions of people with 10+ UMD games that are looking for that added incentive to buy a PS Vita.

A question of fingertips

I have a reputation for being biased of Nintendo. Though I’ve owned an NES, GameCube and a DS throughout my life as a gamer, I’ve always sold them in favor of a more perceived mature product.

That being said, I won’t overlook the fact they have been a driving force of innovation in the gaming industry for years. They’re not afraid to try new things regardless if they are adopted by gaming fans or emulated by their peers.

When it was leaked a successor to the Wii would be announced at this years E3 which would be on par (if not better) with current HD consoles and would use a more traditional control scheme, I was excited. Finally I might be able to experience a few first party titles with third party publishers on board to cater to my more mature gaming interests.

Then the Wii U was announced. I went from excited to downright perplexed. Now that I’ve had a few days to familiarize myself with as much information as I could find, I’ve come to the conclusion this product may not be right for me.

Batarang Controller this Fall

Have you ever wanted a PS3 controller that felt more like the 360? There are many solutions out there, but this is probably going to be the coolest one. Its not only wireless, but the start and select button area looks like a batarang. The actual controller has a sort of batarang shape to it as well. The analog sticks are arranged the same as on a typical Xbox 360 controller. It also has 7 different LED colors to choose. There is also a 360 version, but it is corded(10ft long). It seems The price seems to be $49.99 and available this Fall. I know I will be picking one of these bad boys up for my PS3 gaming. How about you?

Onlive soon to be on Android?

Onlive is quickly becoming a contender for gaming. Many people are using Onlive with their PC or have a stand alone box for it. Thanks to a universal wireless controller it looks like soon you will be able to use your Android tablet to play the same type of games that your use to playing on your Xbox 360, PS3, or even PC.

This could seriously be a game changer. When your traveling just bring your tablet and controller and you have access to console type games. Looks like that huge chunk of investment money HTC put into Onlive is now starting to show results. This not only makes android look better, but makes Onlive look fantastic. This could really attract hardcore gamers to get a tablet and/or use Onlive. Let me know what you think. Do you think this is a game changer? Do you think its no big deal? Are you interested in something like this? Be sure to comment and check this video that the guys at Engadget created.
