Betrayal of my fandom – I might actually like “Smallville”

Smallville Season 1
Smallville Season 1

I’m a Batman fan to the core.

I watched the movies. I own various seasons of the animated series. I dress as characters. I write fanfiction. I own toys, pez dispensers, plates, and so on. All in the name of my love for Batman and the Rogues Gallery.

I’ve always thought Batman was definitely the better superhero when compared to Superman. I mean, he’s a dude without a single superpower who also isn’t afraid to break a thug’s legs to get the information he needs. If Superman even bruises someone I swear it looks like he might be the one to cry. I’m all in favor of a little tough love. Plus Batman has the coolest nemesis: The Joker. How can you top that?

With all my Batman love I now have to admit that I feel like a traitor.

You see, my mom gave me several seasons of Smallville for a Christmas present at my request. I was curious about the series and had only seen bits and pieces. Well, I finally started watching it from the start not long ago and I am sad to say that I’m actually enjoying it so far. True, I’m only at the end of the first season and the show could go rapidly downhill from here, but for now, I kinda like it.

Oh Clark Kent is still a total wuss in my eyes and still don’t like him better than Bruce Wayne but on the whole, the plot of the series is interesting and has caught my attention.

Well….it might be more that Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor caught my attention. Not only am I a sucker for villains and learning more about them and their histories, he’s a damn hot Lex Luthor. (Ladies, if you haven’t seem him in Smallville, I suggest you check it out. Trust me.)

I’m hoping to start on season 2 this week and will let you know what I think after I’ve had a couple more seasons to add to my opinion. Before I break out that set, I have to do my penance by watching a few Batman movies and at least 5 animated episodes.

What about you? Are you a Smallville fan? Or are you like me and avoided it for ages thanks to being a firm Batman fan? I’m totally up for a debate!

I'm a 30 year old geek-girl who not only practices with a lightsaber bokken on a regular basis but I also still write fanfiction. (and I'm proud of both!) I've been a proud geek since I was little, happily calling myself a Trekkie and still loving Star Wars with a passion. My range of geeky love runs from horror (like Repo: The Genetic Opera and Oldboy) to silliness like cartoons and the new Alice in Wonderland and everything in between.

  1. I am a fan of Smallville. I have seen every episode. If you like it now wait until he gets out of High School and it’s not so “monster of the week,” it gets really good then.

Plus I’m a Spiderman guy, but if I would have to choose a DC hero it would either be Green Lantern or Batman(LOVED the animated series).

  2. Well, I own the first six seasons so I’ll at least watch through that much. 🙂 I do like the idea of longer story arcs.

Dude, Batman: The Animated Series was totally awesome. That’s one that I am proud to own all 4 seasons.
