John Barrowman – Lovable Badass

John-Barrowman

We already know John Barrowman is made of awesome. Not only is he an amazing singer (yes, I have a couple of his albums…purchased long before he was Captain Jack) but the world knows and loves him as Captain Jack Harkness.

So how could he be any more amazing?

From ToplessRobot, he was entering his hotel after a show, tackled a teenage thief and held him down until the police arrived!

But that’s not the total badass part:

After that he said he wants to offer the kid a job!

I’m in awe.

Be sure to hop over and check out the details of the takedown and job offer (and the totally adorable picture of Mr. Barrowman in a kilt)!

75 Hours and Counting: My Thoughts on Skyrim

You got something in your...ah, nevermind.

So, in case you’ve missed all of the commercials and high praises from the bulk of the gaming community, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out on 11/11/11. Now, a week and a half later, I finally feel like I’ve put in enough time with this game to form a complete opinion on it. The thing you need to realize is that this is still a Bethesda game. The combat is definitely improved over Oblivion, and the conversation system is a lot less formal, but this is still a game from the guys that made Oblivion and Fallout 3. Much of the game is spent wandering around the Nordic province of Skyrim, completing quests and discovering various forms of dungeon. If those mechanics weren’t your bag before, I’m not sure that they will be now. Along with that, you’ll have to put up with a little bit of sandbox wonkiness and some goofy stuff that goes on. But, if you’re still interested, then read on and find out why I’m still itching to play more after 75 hours.

The Horrors of Winter and an Author’s Aid

Stephen King

Stephen King

Sometimes my favorite authors and actors do things that make me extremely proud of them (and the money I spend on their items).

Stephen King has put out a call in Maine via radio for folks who are able to donate funds to help low income families with heating assistance this winter in the broadcast area. They’ve also agreed to match donations up to $70,000 which would bring the total assistance to $140,000. This request and offer is in response to the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program which is facing some severe cuts.

I’m sure he’ll come under criticism for not donating more or for asking other folks to donate before he matches the amount but in this humble Elf’s opinion, he’s at least doing something rather than ignore the situation in a town that he still calls home.

Kudos to you, Mr. King.

I think you’ve just inspired me to purchase your newest book.
