A glimpse of the villain in Star Trek 2!
The details of the next Star Trek movie have been pretty darn scarce. We don’t know who the villain will be (but we do know he’ll be played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and there are other favorite actors that are joining the cast as unnamed characters.
Because of this the speculation has been running rampant on who the major villain will be. All we’ve gotten up to this point is that it won’t be Khan and it will be one of the lesser known ones from the series.
With all that in mind, check out this awesome first photo from the filming of the newest movie, thanks to MTV.com.
That does look like a Starfleet uniform that Benedict is wearing but from the look on his face as Spock delivers the infamous Nerve Pinch I’d say they are not on the same side.
My opinion on the newest villain?
Gary Mitchell.
It’s true, he’s not as well known as some of the others from the show but he was one of the most memorable, at least to me and he sure started out as a Starfleet officer and friend to Kirk.
For those of you who don’t want to read the wiki article, when the Enterprise encounters the galactic barrier in the episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before†it sends the ships systems haywire but also gives Mitchell ESP and “god-like†abilities. (think Q gone mad) Long story short, Mitchell goes crazy and Kirk is forced to try to maroon his friend on a planet that should be familiar to you, Delta Vega. It goes badly, Mitchell kills folks, including a woman who has also begun to show similar powers, and Kirk is finally forced to kill him.
It’s a great episode and I highly recommend watching it. If you are familiar with the episode, what do you think? Is Gary Mitchell a likely villain for the newest Star Trek movie? If not, who do you think it is?
Edit: After talking with a friend I also think it’s possible (and I’d hope so much for this) that Ben could be Trelane, the Squire of Gothos. It would also be a great chance for them to revamp that character and even link him to the Q (which was done in the Next Gen book, “Q-Squared“).
