A few of my favorite horror movies

Silence of the Lambs

"Hello, Clarice..."

I’m a fan of horror movies but the ones I love most are the ones that are more psychological thrillers. I’m not opposed to blood, gore, guts and so on though unless it’s done just right I do get rather tired of it in excess. But I love movies that mess with your head. The reason this is on my mind today is thanks to watching one of those movies with a group of friends last night. After seeing it I felt the need to share some of my top favorite movies that don’t rely as much on gore but instead love to mess with your mind.

Don’t worry, I promise not to give any spoilers just in case there are folks who haven’t seen one or more of these movies.

Seven

Yeah, this is the one we watched last night. True, there’s still a fair amount of gore and blood in this one but the best parts are the ones you don’t see (like at the end!). This is also one movie that will get you thinking and wondering about the twists through to the climax. I hadn’t seen it in a few years and I’m glad I rewatched it last night. Even though I knew what was going to happen it didn’t lessen the experience at all which, to me, is the mark of an excellent flick. Definitely fits in with my top favorites.

Session 9

The first time I watched this movie I had no clue what was really going on. I only knew that I was freaked out. There’s very little gore in this movie. In fact, there’s almost none. Only one scene that still gives me shivers and it was quick. I admit, I had to watch it again (this time in the daytime) just so I could catch all the little things that made the movie even creepier. The final line of the movie is the perfect closer and I still get tingles when I think about it.

Silence of the Lambs

This might be my all time favorite horror movie. It messes with your head almost as much as Hannibal Lecter messes with the minds of the folks in the movie. There’s only one real instance of blood and gore in the movie and it only lasts for a moment. The rest of the film hints at so much more but lets your imagination run wild instead. Heck, all I have to do is hear Hannibal Lecter’s voice and I get goosebumps!  If you’re one of the few people who hasn’t seen this movie, you are missing out. Go and watch it tonight!

I just realized that all three movies I listed today start with “S”. I sense a trend here….

Do you agree or disagree with my thoughts on these three that are in my top favorite thriller/horror movies? What ones would you add for next time?
