Buffy Motion Comic Review

I just finished the latest episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Motion Comic. I want to start by saying the content so far is very short. Each episode is about 11 minutes long, but it is some of the best stuff in the Buffy universe. Fans of the TV Series will truly love this(if they haven’t read the comic) because it connects so much from the series. So far it has brought a few twists and surprises. At the end of each episode I truly have a OMG moment. It is obvious that the comic series is a true gift to the fans. I would highly recommend picking this up if you have not already. The iTunes pass starts at $15 for the SD version. I for one couldn’t wait for the DVD(Hopefully Bluray too) to come out so I had to pick up the pass. I’m curious who else has been watching this and what their thoughts are. Feel free to leave a comment.

Tony Hawk Shred(To Peaces)

I posted this video to “Shred” it to peaces. Did Tony Hawk: Ride really sell that well that they can justify releasing another game using the fake skateboard controller? I speak as a former skater when I say this is totally ridiculous. The bundle is marked at $99.99. I would rather buy another skateboard(signature brands=same price). I for one play a game to escape reality and not to simulate it so much only to pretend. It just seems a bit silly to me. I was really hoping that the Tony Hawk games would go back to the way they were. I popped in the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater and its still enjoyable. The graphics were out dated, but the gameplay was solid. Speaking of graphics, they look horrible in this trailer. I hate to see anything involving skateboarding fail, but hopefully this does so they realize to go back to using the controller. I’m curious if anyone out there is thinking of picking this up and why. Please leave a comment if your one of the few or if you want to “Shred” this trailer to peaces as well.

What the Hell Happened: Cartoon Edition

What the hell happened to cartoons? If you pursue a standard saturday morning line up in the U.S right now you are going to find a lot of steaming piles of animation.  Remember the days of really imaginative stuff like Thundercats, G.I. Joe, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? I know these things were basically created to sell a toyline but, at least at first, it seemed that writers actually cared about crafting something.

Even later on when Pokemon dominated the air waves it still was a coherent show that had a decent lesson or two each week about friendship. Now more and more we are seeing a decline not only in quality, but in production at all. The rising costs are leaving future generations out to dry. I know, I know that kids can watch Boomerang and see all the old stuff…but I want to discover something new with a son or daughter someday.

Everything today is so sequel and remake focused and the spirit of originality is all but gone now. I have graduated to some decent animes but, it’s just not the same sometimes.

Icarus revealed to be Bioshock: Infinite

Well, today’s the day. Today is the day that whatisicarus.com finally reveals its secrets. It’s not System Shock 3, and it’s not a new IP. No, it’s another Bioshock game. Now, some may groan, and some may moan, but wait! This is not your typical undersea fare you’ve grown to expect out of the series. No, this game, this “Bioshock Infinite”, is set in a new place. This game is set in Columbia, a city in the clouds. A synopsis, straight from the website:

“BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.”

Judging by the logos at the bottom of the screen, Irrational is sticking with Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 as their platforms.

This news is not exactly what I was expecting. Personally, I was hoping for a new IP. However, I’m glad the franchise is moving someplace other than Rapture. Another story set down there is not what the series needs. What do you think? Is it too soon for another Bioshock announcement? Will you pick it up? Let us know in the comments.

September=Awesome!

We had so many great games, movies and so much more come out at the beginning of the year. So much that I’ve heard people wonder if the 2nd half would be able to deliver the goods. Well I’m going to give you a quick glimpse of whats coming out in September. I believe this is probably the best month of the year for entertainment and here is why:

Theater Releases

Machete– Sept 3-What started out as a spoof trailer for the movie Grindhouse has become a highly anticipated movie.

Resident Evil:Afterlife-Sept 10- I know most gamers think these movies are horrible, but if you can step away from the games and look at it as just a movie they are enjoyable. This one is the 4th in the series and is suppose to use the same 3D cameras that made James Cameron’s Avatar a unique visual experience.

Blu-ray/DVD Release

Killers-Sept 7- I cant personally say much about this movie. It looks to cater the female audience more then male.

MacGruber-Sept 7-Yet another comedic Spoof movie. Though it didn’t look good enough to see in theaters I’m sure it will be a decent rent and maybe it will be on Netflix Instant Watch soon

Letters to Julliet-Sept 14-Again this is another movie that would attract the attention of the female audience.

Prince of Persia:The Sands of Time-Sept 14- Yet another video game movie that has been thrashed with bad reviews. This is another movie I plan on renting to see how it is for myself.

Robin Hood– Sept 21- What was suppose to be Gladiator 2 ended up turning into another movie about the one and only Robin Hood.

Get Him to the Greek-Sept 28-A summer comedy that kept getting great reviews from word of mouth. I for one am looking forward to watching this.

Iron Man 2-Sept 28- The Sequel to one of the best Comic book movie adaptations. Personally I enjoyed it and look forward to adding it to my collection

Music

Kid Rock-Born Free-Sept 7

N.E.R.D.-Nothing- Sept 7

Linkin Park– A Thousand Suns- Sept 14

Weezer-Hurly- Sept 14

Maroon 5-Hand All Over- Sept 21

Ne-Yo-Libra Scale- Sept 21

Doobie Brothers-World Gone Crazy-Sept 28

Ice Cube-I Am the West- Sept 28

Jimmy Eat World-Invented- Sept 28

Video Games

Borderlands DLC-ClapTrap’s Robot Revolution– The release date isn’t clear, but it has been said to release in September. This will be the 4th dlc for the popular co-op shooter/RPG and is said to be the biggest yet.

Spider-Man:Shattered Dimensions-Sept 7- I know the latest Spider-man games haven’t been the best, but this one looks promising. I’m most excited about the story of it and how the 4 different spider-men will play out.

Cabela’s North American Adventure-Sep 7- I know you might think this is a joke. Its true that odds are you and I are not going to be interested in this game but apparently these games are selling well since they keep releasing them every year.

Halo Reach-Sept 14- Say what you want about Halo, fanboys, and whatever the facts remain that Halo is one of the most popular multi-player gaming franchise

Playstation Move-Sept 17- Again odds are not a lot of us “Hardcore” gamers will be picking this up, but this is a big release in the gaming industry. It will show whether or not motion control gaming will work on the “Hardcore” consoles.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V-Sept 21- Seems like this has been one of the highly anticipated PC game to come out this year. The series has a big following and a reputation for being a fun RTS.

Dead Rising 2– Sept 28- Zombies Zombies Zombies. Lots of people are tired of Zombies. Well I think they will make an exception for this game. Not much to say,but its a sequel to one of the best Zombie games of this console generation.

Plants Vs Zombies-Sept 28- This of course is the Xbox 360 version of the crack like addictive game from Popcap. I have already purchased this on PC and iPod Touch. This will make 3 different versions of the game I have purchased. Safe to say I am probably not alone.

Final Fantasy XIV– Sept 30- I personally am not too excited about this, but I know lots of people are looking forward to this MMO. This is just the PC version. If there is a free trial I will most likely give it a shot, but it is a popular franchise so had to mention it

Overall this month is going to be really good. There is a large variety of entertainment options for everyone. Good thing September is just around the corner.

Retro Rocket: Final Fantasy VII

So many things have been said over this game that it is hard to find a new spin to put on it, that being said I am just going to talk from the heart on this one.  I found Final Fantasy VII by accident. I had always been a fan of the U.S. releases of Final Fantasy back when it was always on Nintendo. I loved both Final Fantasy 4 and 6 with all my heart. Between Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VII I was finally convinced to save up my money to get a PlayStation, to this day it remains one of the best purcahses I ever made.

I am not going to bother to bore you with a review of FF 7. The internets are littered with them and they have been done by far better then me. What I will do is tell you why, no matter how many times the game is called overrated, I will always love it. Final Fantasy VII had a mood to it. From the characters, the settings, and especially the music everything coalesced to make you just feel what it was like to be in the world of Cloud, Barret, and Tifa. By today’s standards the graphics are terrible but at the time they were mind-blowing. The places I went in the game felt real no matter how fantastic they were.

Speaking of music, I don’t think a FF game has ever had a better soundtrack. At every single turn in the story the music sets the tone. From joy to heartache and from mystery to romance the music is center stage. It is no small tribute to the soundtrack that FF7 is one of the most remixed soundtracks ever.

Say what you will about melodrama, the characters of FF7 have stuck with me. I still feel the plight of Cloud when he returns home to his small town only to not find his mother, or of Aerith and her quest to find her place in the scheme of things. Final Fantasy 7 is close behind 6 in terms of remember-able characters that stick with you.

With the game being on the PSN store, I highly encourage you to try it out for yourself. Forgive the now outdated graphics and just play it for what it is, you will enjoy it.

Droid X vs Droid 2?

The past few months I’ve been looking for a new phone. But it wasn’t until the release of the iPhone 4 that I decided to get a smart phone. Since I’ve never anything other than a Verizon phone I settled on getting a Droid. The only problem was which one should I get?

At the time the Droid X was just released, and it looked beautiful with it’s 4.3 inch screen and it’s 8 megapixal camera with dual flash. The only problem was for me was that it didn’t have a keyboard. It was all touch screen. I have a touch screen phone now but it sucks, so that has turned me off on touch screen phone. Granted it may just be my phone that sucks. The other problem I have with it is the size. Yes I know that was a good thing just a few sentences ago but I carry my phone in my pocket, so I’d feel like I’d snap the phone in half when I squatted down.

My only other choice for a newer model phone is to wait for the Droid 2 to come out next week. The Droid 2 only has a 5mpx camera, but I don’t use my very often so I really don’t care about that too much. The Droid 2 looks a lot like the Droid one with a bit of a face lift. The lip at the bottom is now a smooth curve. The gold useless directional pad is gone. And that’s all the major physical changes to from the Droid. The Droid 2 is coming with Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box which is the first android phone to come with Froyo.

I’m most likely going to get the Droid 2 and I’ll have a review on it once I get my hands on it for a while, so look for that in the future.
